For Android · Countries of the world · Free
197 countries.
Find every one.
For students, quiz fans, travelers, and anyone who wants to place Burkina Faso or Kyrgyzstan without guessing. The World is a free map in MapSharp, a map quiz built around spaced repetition, so what you learn stays learned.
The quiz
Read its name. Find it on the map.
Each round you see the name of a country or territory. Pan, zoom, then tap where you think it is.
The name appears at the top. Is it Slovenia or Slovakia? Niger or Nigeria? Territories come with a hint, like “French overseas territory”.
Select a place on the map and confirm. Zoom in as far as you need, all the way down to the smallest island nations.
Right or wrong, you see the place's name and population, so every answer teaches you something.
Spaced repetition
Efficient learning
Instead of drilling everything equally often, spaced repetition spends your time where it is needed. Get a country right and the next review moves further out. Miss it and it comes back soon. Try it with one country:
One country, your answers
Kyrgyzstan Central Asia

Day 0: you see Kyrgyzstan for the first time.
A simplified illustration. The app uses FSRS, a modern, open-source scheduling algorithm also used by well-known flashcard apps, which adapts each interval to your own answer history.

Questions
From the app's FAQ
How many new places should I learn each day?
Start with a small number. You will review the places you learn today in the near future, so your daily workload is larger than just the new ones. At five a day you will have seen all 247 in about seven weeks. Increase the number once you have a feel for how many reviews you do each day.
What happens if I skip scheduled reviews?
Nothing breaks. Do them when you have time. The app takes the delay into account when it schedules the next reviews.
How do I deal with too many reviews waiting?
Set your daily goal to 0 for a while. This stops new places from being added, so you can catch up on the reviews that are already waiting. Raise the goal again when the daily load feels manageable.
Which places are included?
All 197 countries: the 193 members of the United Nations, plus Vatican City, Palestine, Kosovo and Taiwan. And 50 territories, such as Greenland, Hong Kong, Puerto Rico and Martinique: every inhabited place with its own country code. Disputed areas and uninhabited islands are shown on the map, but you are not asked about them.
Are there more detailed maps?
Yes. The same app has all 50 US states, also free, all 3,143 US counties and all 357 municipalities in Norway. Your first 30 counties or municipalities are free.
